Southend Drama Society are bringing Habeas Corpus to the Dixon Studion this week and Director, Simon Lawlor, says of the Alan Bennett's 1973 comedy,
"I directed the same play for this Society 20 years ago in the old Focus theatre which has been demolished, and we thought it was time to give it a second airing in the more intimate atmosphere of the Dixon studio. As an example of how time changes us, Helen who played the 22 year old Felicity Rumpers at the Focus is in this production too, but as Mrs Swabb the 42 year old cleaning lady."
He continues, "We’ve not tried to modernise the play so it still contains 1960’s references to Omar Sharif, Julie Andrews and Ted Heath."

Mismanaged lust - mistaken identity - dropped trousers.
This has all the ingredients of a classic farce, spiced with the warmth and humanity of Alan Bennett’s razor-sharp wit. Like some saucy seaside postcard or an end-of-the-pier romp, the piece shows how a collection of stock types from Hove find themselves propelled into the permissive society with the arrival of a false-breast fitter from Leatherhead.
Great fun guaranteed!
This is an amateur production.
