9 to 5: The Musical is written by Dolly Parton, and is based on the 1980 20th Century Fox hit film of the same name in which Dolly also starred. The musical is more or less exactly the same as the film but with a fabulous musical score and as Dolly herself states, “9 to 5 the Musical is perfect for anyone that's ever wanted to string up their boss, which is almost all of us. So come join the fun!"
Featuring original numbers from global icon Dolly Parton's Grammy & Tony nominated score, this sharp, witty musical adventure is one of the most exciting new musicals to hit the UK stage, touring throughout 2012/13. Little Theatre Company is now bringing this feel-good, up beat show to Southend's Palace Theatre next week.
9 to 5: The Musical centres on three office workers who turn the tables on their sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot of a boss. Whilst conspiring to take control of the company, they learn there's nothing they can't do, even in a man's world. Hey, a girl can scheme, can't she?
With a fabulous score including ‘Backwoods Barbie’, ‘Shine Like the Sun’ and, of course, the original hit song ‘9 TO 5’. Dolly fans will probably recognise a few songs in the show from her album, Better Day.
This high-energy show even features Dolly herself, via video from her desk in Dollywood!

With Musical Direction for LTC from Clare Penfold, the show's boasts a fabulous score with lots of fantastic harmonies which the cast have got down to a tee.
LTC's Bradley Green tells me, "This musical has such a feel good factor to it, audiences will leave the theatre with massive smiles on their faces. Dolly Parton has written the score but the songs have quite a musical theatre feel to them with lots of harmonies - she really is amazingly talented in writing this musical." Having listened to some of the cast performing a few of the songs from the show to the Palace Theatre Club on Saturday morning, I can't help but agree and can't wait to see the show in all it's glory. Bradley adds, "It's quite a complicated set, so our tech rehearsal will probably be a long one, especially as we have the real Dolly being projected on to a screen on the stage at the beginning and end of the show!" Can't wait! |
Outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic, 9 to 5: THE MUSICAL is about teaming up and taking care of business.
Feisty, fun and oh so fabulous!
