The Smash-Hit Broadway Musical Whodunnit
The Players Theatre Company
29th November - 2nd December 2017
Ian Scoging's debut appearance with The Players Theatre Company will also be his first major leading role in a musical and one in which he is thrilled to be part of. Having played smaller roles in the past and most recently as Inspector Andre Thibault in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with Southend Operatic Society, Ian felt he was ready to audition for the part of another detective, this time Lieutenant Frank Cioffi who is called upon for his sleuthing skills in the 'whodunnit musical' and ends up directing the show, such is his passion for musical theatre. It is a part which was played by Frasier star, David Hyde Pierce, who also won a Tony for the role, when it played on Broadway in 2007.
Ian, 52, whose day job is Head Chef at a private hospital, tells me, "Cioffi comes in to investigate the murder of the leading lady in the show they are putting on. He is a big musical theatre fan and having seen the show in previews he makes a few comments and then ends up changing the show, for the better. So he not only solves the murder but he fixes the show too!" He adds, "It's so very cleverly written that any of the characters could be the murderer."
There will, however, be clues for the audience should they wish to figure out for themselves who they think the murderer is. I suggest that the show sounds like a murder mystery in a musical within a musical, and Ian agrees. "It is and it's also very very funny."
Of being part of The Players Theatre Company Ian says, "These guys have just been so welcoming and friendly which has created a lovely atmosphere to rehearsals and the show. Cioffi is such a great character, with lots of depth so he's great to play, I'm really looking forward to it."
The Players Theatre Company are delighted to be amongst the first to bring the show to Southend, and are no stranger to the Palace Theatre having previously presented a number of shows including White Christmas, Acorn Antiques - The Musical, The Vicar of Dibley and more recently Stepping Out-The Play.
Join Ian for this wonderfully comic, musical murder-mystery and find out if Lt Cioffi really can save the day, or if it really is, ‘Curtains’ for the show!
