Move over kids! There’s a new drama course in town and this time it’s aimed at the big guys, that’s right this one's for the adults who have stars in their eyes!  Have you ever dreamed of treading the boards yet been too afraid to join a local drama group for fear of looking silly?  Did you aspire to become the next Brad Pitt or Gwyneth Paltrow but could never afford to go to drama school? Are you currently part of a drama group but feel that you could improve your acting skills?  Well look no further - here’s a course that's just for you!

Tricia Etherton, along with colleague and former student, Patrick Seymour will be holding a 10 week long drama course for adults which is beginning this September.  The course is aimed at adults of all acting abilities from people who have never performed before to those who may have been part of an amateur dramatics group for many years, who maybe feel that they could learn more from the craft; to those who are thinking of acting as a career and would like to apply eventually to drama school.

Tricia has had lots of teaching experience, formerly running her own part time and full time Drama Schools and has been Head of Performing Arts in a large college of Further Education.  “I have over 30 years experience as a Theatre Director, Tutor and Examiner.” she tells me.  “I have also worked back stage on shows such as ‘Phantom of the Opera’ and ‘Miss Saigon’.”

Her directing work includes Fringe productions, running community theatre projects and large scale youth productions at venues such as The Palladium, Drury Lane and the Royal Albert Hall.

Tricia currently works mostly in the corporate field, assisting professionals who seek her voice coaching to improve their presenting skills. This is something that has become rather a speciality for Tricia who says that most of her time spent now is with actors and professionals looking to enhance their voices.

“The workshop will be one evening a week for 10 weeks” Tricia tells me.  It will be at 28 Stephenson Rd, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex SS9 5LY just off the A127 behind the Mercedes Benz Showroom and, Tricia continues to tell me, “The course will be a good, professional experience with our aim to create group drama performances which will be then examined by the drama examining board, Trinity, in a final showcase evening.”

Patrick, who is a professional actor, says, “We are providing a free workshop on 2nd September, where we will have the opportunity to gauge differing abilities.” “We will be covering warm ups, improvisation, voice work, technique, Stanislavsky, Brecht, characterisation, script work and of course, Shakespeare. It’s going to be very exciting!”

Tricia tells me that each student will be given a folder in which they can keep weekly information handouts and be able to chart their progress on their personal learning plan and, as previously stated, they will be examined at the end of the course for which they will receive a certificate.  A theatre visit will also be part of the course plan.

All refreshments will be provided and Tricia and Patrick ask that you wear comfortable clothing as there will be some movement involved.  The cost of this 10 week course is just £150.00 which works out to be just £15.00 per session which will run from 7.00pm to 9.30pm on Wednesday evenings.  If you don't want to pay the £150.00 up front then you will be able to pay £18.00 per session.
