Christmas Record Raises Money for the Homeless
Ian Haywood, a talented singer/songwriter and pianist from Thundersley, has recorded a Christmas single, City Story to raise money for the homeless. He is signed to Oakfield Records in Benfleet and has recorded the song as a solo, although, he also regularly performs as a member of various bands.
Ian is a classically trained pianist who started writing in his teens, his major influences being Elton John and Billy Joel. He has previously released an album of atmospheric piano music and on the 2nd of December, released the charity Christmas single City Story (Life Lingers On).
He says that in the past, he released a song about animal suffering to raise money for animal charities, and this time he decided that he wanted to do something to help the homeless. He already had a tune so wrote the lyrics telling the story of two homeless people, one of which is an Army veteran. He wanted the song to be both thought provoking as well as having an up-lifting Christmassy feel.
It is a subject close to the heart as the independent record label Oakfield records, is run by a serving soldier in the Military Police, Sgt., Clint Bredin and his brother Luke. Together with Ian, it was decided to donate the proceeds from sales between Shelter and Veterans Aid.
These charities deal with the general problem of homelessness, and ex-armed forces who find themselves on the street. The rising level of homelessness amongst ex-servicemen is a major problem, which deserves more attention, and is covered by the song City Story.
The single, which has already had significant airplay on Radio Caroline, is priced at £1 and can be downloaded by texting CITY to 85888 or from iTunes, Amazon or Googleplay or found on Spotify or Apple Music.
All proceeds will go to Shelter and Veterans Aid
