Born in London, Stephen has lived in Essex all his life and now resides in Langdon Hills just outside Basildon. He has been a “regular” to Southend-on-Sea for over 40 years, where the seafront holds (and still creates) many fond memories for him and his family, and where the Palace and Cliff’s Pavilion Theatre’s are two of his favourite places to be.
As a professionally trained actor, Steve is regularly working in the Film and TV arena’s, having recently finished an eight-month spell on Sky 1’s “Critical” working alongside Lenny James and Danny Kirrane and will be in John Hurt’s, new Crime drama “The Last Panthers.
Describing himself candidly as one of life’s “creative types”, Stephen founded movie Production Company “Evolution Film Productions” with his investor partners in 2013 (producing thought provoking movies and “life-films”) and he has been the proud Principal of successful weekend drama school, “The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts” for over seven successful years, responsible for 170+ young performers being trained in Drama, TV / Film skills and Musical Theatre disciplines, every week.
Turning Pro-Photographer in 2011, Stephen has formal accreditation as an International Photojournalist and works for NEWSMExx TV, The German Daily News and PAM Lifestyle magazine, and is never more comfortable than when he has a camera in his hands. A recent semi finalist in the “British Photographer of the Year”, (for Arts and Entertainment) he specialises in Theatre Photography, Film-sets & behind scenes work, portrait portfolios and performers Head-shots.
“I simply love making pictures.”
I feel very fortunate and privileged to be associated to some fabulous Performing Arts Companies and groups both locally here in Southend and around the UK, whom have allowed me to photograph and work closely with them. Southend has some simply exceptional performing talent and by attempting to regularly capture this talent on a photographic image is a passion I will never tire of. I hope to continue to work with, build and grow my photographic reputation with all those groups I am associated with and continue to try and capture the “essence” of the shows I am invited to work on, in the images I produce.
To quote Photographer Paul Caponigro, “It's one thing to take a picture of what someone looks like; it’s another thing to make an image of who they are.”
Steve is very proud to be the Theatre News feature photographer alongside reporter Kim Tobin for Southend Theatre Scene.
