ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER'S MASTERPIECE COMES TO SOUTHEND FOR THE FIRST TIME!
Winner of 7 TONY Awards including Best Musical, this lush and sweeping tale of Hollywood’s darker side features one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s best scores, including the hit songs ‘With One Look’, ‘As If We Never Said Goodbye’ and the number one hit ‘The Perfect Year’. Little Theatre Company are bringing another regional premiere to Southend on Sea this week.
Sunset Boulevard weaves a magnificent tale of faded glory and unfulfilled ambition. Silent movie star Norma Desmond, who is played by Stephanie Wilson, longs for a return to the big screen, having been discarded by tinsel town with the advent of ‘talkies’. Having escaped from repossession agents finds Joe Gillis, played by Simon Bristoe, at Norma’s faded, dilapidated mansion. “You used to be in pictures – you used to be big?” Joe asks, to which Norma responds, “I am big… it’s the pictures that got small!”. Their subsequent passionate and volatile relationship leads to an unforeseen and tragic conclusion.
