Multiple Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown has been described as “one of Broadway’s smartest and most sophisticated songwriters since Sondheim” (Philadelphia Inquirer), “extraordinary” (Chicago Tribune), and as “a leading member of a new generation of composers” (New York Times). For the first time ever in Essex, experience a cross-section of all of his major works (13, Parade, Bridges of Madison County, The Last Five Years, Songs for a New World) performed entirely live. Brown’s songs are brought to life in stunning fashion with an exciting cast of 15, a live band of seven and luscious new orchestrations and arrangements by Liam Holmes.
This concert features songs from all of Brown’s soaring and powerful musicals - covering genres including latin, jazz, rock, gospel and folk - as well as songs from his acclaimed solo album, “Wearing Someone Else’s Clothes”. The concert will include renditions of The Old Red Hills of Home, Still Hurting, Moving Too Fast, Coming Together, Someone to Fall Back On, Brand New You, Stars and the Moon and much, much more.

So what compelled Ashton to put on this concert. He says, "My motivation for putting on this concert was simple. For whatever technical, dramatic and financial reasons, musicals by Jason Robert Brown are seldom performed - yet these are songs, scores and shows which deserve to be heard and need to be heard by the people of Southend and Essex."
After putting together an all-star cast for his concept musical, Samson, last year, the talented Ashton couldn't wait to assemble another stupendously talented cast, and he proudly admits that this collection matches, if not surpasses, last year's offering. He explains, "The singers mirror Brown's work in that we have pop voices, gospel voices, folk voices, classical voices and more, professionals, students and amateurs in all shapes and sizes, and the fifteen outrageously talented performers will be supported by an equally explosive band of seven (five of whom are playing more than one instrument)!"
Being so keen for everyone to have the chance to come and witness this collection of talent and beautiful music, tickets are competitively set at £10 for adults and £9 for students, children and OAPs.
In short, this is set to be an incredible evening of music, superb in quality and utterly immersive and engaging in nature.
Tickets are available at southendtheatres.org.uk or call the box office on 01702 351135 and are selling really well, so don't miss out!
(Parents are advised that there is occasional mild language (recommended 11+)
