TOMMY - The Album - LIVE!
On a Major UK Tour this Autumn 2019
Celebrating the 50th Anniversary
Of The Who’s Classic Album Tommy
At the Palace Theatre Southend on 22 September
This Autumn 2019, the acclaimed band The Goldhawks will head out on a major UK theatre tour performing TOMMY – The Album – LIVE.  Celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Who’s classic ground-breaking rock opera album TOMMY, the show will play the Palace Theatre in Southend on Sunday 22 September.

The Who’s iconic masterpiece is brought to life and recreated for the stage by the fabulous, international eight-piece band, The Goldhawks. With all the emotions, tension and raw power that the music demands, the show features a masterful replication of The Who’s iconic sound, backed with exciting, extra-large screen projection and some archival footage of the band themselves.

Audiences can also expect a fabulous finale, featuring bonus material of some all-time classic hits from The Who – the ultimate way to close the show!

TOMMY was first released as a double album on 17 May 1969 by Decca Records and introduced The Who to a new level of superstardom. The album was composed by guitarist Pete Townshend and that tells the story of Tommy Walker, a "deaf, dumb and blind" boy and the trials he faces growing up, before becoming a ‘Pinball Wizard’.  Featuring hits including ‘The Acid Queen’, ‘I’m Free’ and ‘See Me Feel Me’, the album was a huge critical success and has since been re-released over the years, spending an incredible 126 weeks in the Billboard charts.

TOMMY – The Album – LIVE is a loving tribute to the music of one of the most enduring bands in the world to this day, with Goldhawks’ front man Doug Freeman faithfully recreating the extraordinary vocal range of Who lead singer Roger Daltrey.

The Goldhawks are a world-class international band, acclaimed as the world’s number one tribute to The Who, with many accolades from friends and family of The Who themselves.

Working in various outfits, touring and meeting up once in a while they realized they were all ardent fans of the best band in the world – The Who.  From there it was an easy decision, to only play their favourite music.  The Goldhawks were born, and they’ve never looked back.  The Goldhawks have just finished a national tour of Quadrophenia live, celebrating the seminal Mods vs Rockers Who album.

Wolfy Foxlow, who toured regularly with The Who says: ‘It’s the closest you’ll ever get to the real thing’.

Lead singer, Doug Freeman, a renowned performing and recording artist in his own right, is joined by professional musician and award-winning bass player, Dan Selway on bass guitar and vocals, together with first class session musician and West End performer, Marco Cape on lead guitar and vocals. The band’s line-up is completed by drummer Steely Thatcher, who has performed across the USA having studied in LA, renowned session musician, Kasjusz Lipkowski on saxophone and keyboards, the show’s musical director, Fabio Parisella on piano and keyboards, Ivan Williams on guitar and vocals and Colin Jones on horns and percussion.

TOMMY – THE ALBUM – LIVE, is produced by Concept Concerts Ltd.

We talk all things The Who with The Goldhawks’ front man Doug Freeman as he prepares go on tour with TOMMY – THE ALBUM - LIVE

Q) Doug, tell us a little about TOMMY – THE ALBUM - LIVE and what audiences can expect.
Tommy the album LIVE!  is an exciting recreation of The Who's album Tommy , released in 1969, exactly fifty years ago. Our eight piece band faithfully recreates all the power and orchestration of the original album.

Q) What’s so special for you about the music of The Who?
It touches a raw nerve - it's full of the passion and angst that you can relate to when you're a teenager  - and when you grow up

Q) The Goldhawks are acclaimed as one of the best ever tributes to The Who – tell us how the band met.
We were all working in separate outfits and a bit disillusioned about having to play this and that to order. We used to get together once in a while for a drink and a chat, and one night we were discussing our different musical paths in life when we realised that we had something very much  in common, we all absolutely loved The Who. We decided there and then to get together and vowed to perform only the music we love - that of The Who. The Goldhawks were born!

Q) Have any of the band members been to see you perform?  Which other VIPs have seen your shows?
Pete Townsend's brothers Paul and Simon, and Keith Moon's mother and family. And Phil Daniels and Trevor Laird from the film Quadrophenia , those are the notable ones. There've been many other VIP s but too numerous to mention.

Q) Is TOMMY – THE ALBUM – LIVE just for Who aficionados?
Absolutely NOT! It is a story about Life.

Q) What’s next for The Goldhawks?
Our next tour is 'Then and Now - The Who's Greatest Hits!' - from Spring 2020.
